I BEGAN PHOTOGRAPHING UNDERWATER AT FOURTEEN, IN A WORLD REDUCED TO DETAIL.
BENEATH THE SURFACE, SCALE DISSOLVES AND ATTENTION SHARPENS. TEXTURE BECOMES LANDSCAPE. COLOUR CARRIES WEIGHT. MOVEMENT SLOWS, BECOMES DELIBERATE AND FLEETING. LEARNING TO PHOTOGRAPH IN THIS SPACE TAUGHT ME PATIENCE, SENSITIVITY, AND A WAY OF SEEING THAT STAYED WITH ME LONG AFTER I LEFT THE WATER.
THAT WAY OF SEEING EXTENDS OUTWARD. FROM MACRO TO FOOD, FROM NATURE TO PEOPLE, FROM STILLNESS TO MOTION. I AM DRAWN TO SURFACES, GESTURES, AND MOMENTS THAT REVEAL THEMSELVES QUIETLY WHEN OBSERVED CLOSELY. LIGHT RESTING ON SKIN. HANDS IN MOTION. THE TRACE OF WARMTH LEFT BEHIND ON A TABLE. WHAT I PHOTOGRAPH IS NEVER ONLY THE SUBJECT, BUT THE FEELING SURROUNDING IT.
MY WORK MOVES FLUIDLY ACROSS DISCIPLINES , EDITORIAL FOOD AND HOSPITALITY, NATURE, MOTION, ACTION, AND STILL IMAGERY, GUIDED BY THE SAME INSTINCT. WITHIN EACH FRAME, THERE IS AN ALCHEMY BETWEEN LIGHT, MOVEMENT, AND PRESENCE. IMAGES ARE COMPOSED TO HOLD EMOTION AND SOUL, TO SUGGEST WHAT CAME BEFORE AND WHAT CONTINUES BEYOND THE FRAME. I AM LESS INTERESTED IN FREEZING A MOMENT THAN IN ALLOWING THE VIEWER TO SENSE SOUND, RHYTHM, AND ATMOSPHERE WITHIN IT.
PHOTOGRAPHY, FOR ME, IS A WAY OF SLOWING TIME. OF ALLOWING MOOD, TEXTURE, AND PRESENCE TO SURFACE QUIETLY.
